Mainspring Collective

Naming & Branding

Overview

More than 4,500 people in our Southern Maine and Seacoast New Hampshire communities live close to or below the poverty line. With this in mind, two established nonprofits in Kittery, Maine- Fair Tide and Footprints Food Pantry, worked together to create a centralized, hassle-free location from which those in need can access a system of support and resources that will aid them in improving well-being and, ultimately, thrive in their community. Mainspring is based on best practices associated with addressing poverty and strengthening individuals, families and communities. Taken together, these critical elements offer a long-term and sustainable solution to the broken system we have in place today.

As Fair Tide and Footprints Food Pantry prepared to break ground on their new location, they approached Stout Heart in need of a name for their social services hub and a brand that would build credibility for potential donors and comfort for potential clients. Stout Heart is always thrilled to work with nonprofits and worked collaboratively with the client to come up with the name Mainspring, which is the chief spring in a mechanism, especially of a watch or clock. It stands fro a powerful motive, agent, or cause- all that Mainspring embodies.

Once the Mainspring name was established, the Stout Heart team developed a logo and brand for the nonprofit. To this day, it’s a team (and fan) favorite.
